Saturday, April 27, 2013 - Hurricane Half Marathon

The Toquerville Royalty had the opportunity to provide an aide station for the half marathon today.  We were called on last minute because the Hurricane Royalty were all busy with their day dates for prom.  It was fun having the first assignment.  I am not doing this for Jessica because I know that she will get out of this experience what she puts in and I will not stand in the way of that so she got all the supplies and took care of organizing us all.  Jessica is very willing to do what is needed and so excited to do whatever.  Ok- lets face it, wouldn't all of us love the opportunity to wear THAT crown as much as possible?  The girls were asked to pick up the supplies on Friday night and have the aide station set up by 6 AM this morning.  Jess and I were able to recruit her little brother Christian so us three left at 5:30.  MG met us there but AP and MP were out of town.  We missed those two.  It was quite chilly and a little scary as a cow was hit by a car on the main road a little before we passed.  There were still some cows out.  We got to the aide station location in front of the animal shelter no problem and begin settling up.  We froze but had fun talking and laughing before the runners made it to our location.  There was also a 5K and that was extremely hard trying to provide the much needed hydration to the courageous runners.  The marathon participants were very happy, (except the first runner who for some reason all three of us weren't holding the cups correctly).  We especially enjoyed cheering on the very last finisher.  It was his first marathon and the first one any member of his family had completed.  It was very rewarding to be part of something that takes so much commitment.  I personally do not know how any runners do it.  I could never.  They all definitely have my respect, that's you Leavitts.  We loved seeing some well known (and loved) teachers running such as Mr. Ence, Mr. Clay, and Coach Kidd-Thomas!  Congrats to all and hopefully you will get a glimpse of Jessica's feelings about it all soon.

MG is crazy!

Here we go......

On Saturday, April 20, 2013, the Condie family life changed forever.... well dramatically for the next year!  After months of practice and practice and more practice Jessica earned the title of Miss Toquerville.  We are so excited for her and all of us know how much work this will require for her and for all of us.  Seeing her proud brothers and ecstatic father, I knew we were all ready to help her serve the wonderful community we live in.
If anyone knows me they know I love to take pictures.  From an early age I learned the importance of preserving memories with pictures.  I still haven't mastered keeping all these pics organized but at least they are there.  Someday.....
The idea of the blog started when one of the contestants commented that no one takes as many pictures as I do.  I had started a family blog a while ago and had always wanted to publish it but never got around to it because I was never as consistent as I wanted to be.   Since we have the chance to start from day 1 and begin a year's journey.....in the life of a Princess!
The theme of the pageant was "A Pirates Life for Me".  The outgoing princess's mom gets to be the director for the pageant.  The Harris's put on the most amazing show.  They had many workshops that taught the contestants many skills that they will be able to use throughout their life.  There were hair and make-up workshops, walk, and interview workshop with mock interviews.  I can tell you, the mock interviews were very helpful.  The girls had to wear their interview outfits so they could see if they would figit with anything with their outfits.  Jessica learned that she had a tendency to play with her bangs.  We made sure they were staying in place for the actual interview.
The day of the pageant finally came after a week of nerves.  Jessica's interview was at 4:15 Saturday afternoon.  We arrived at 4 and I am not sure which one of us was more nervous.  I was sooo extremely nervous.  After the interview we rushed home to start on the stage make-up and hair.  We added clip-in extensions to Jessica's hair and they were super fun.  Seriously!  We had practiced putting them in the day before at the dress rehearsal and that turned out to be priceless practice.  Grandma Smith came over to help with make-up while I did the hair.  We barely had time to finish as we rushed out the door.  Cory was so awesome to put everything in the car and get the camera set up at the pageant beforehand so we didn't have to worry about that.  So we rushed off.  The night was very rushed but so super fun!  I feel like Jessica and I became so much closer working toward the same cause.  I hope this year will just build us closer.  The production number was first and they danced to Pirates of the Caribbean.  The contestants also had a blurb prepared to introduce themselves.  Jessica's was "Sometimes in our pursuit of happiness it is good to pause and just be happy".  She was flawless.  Then it was time to rush and get ready for talent.  Jessica performed a piano solo entitled "La Folia".  She again performed her piano piece flawlessly.  When she came off the stage she said she didn't think she had ever performed the song so well.  She was really happy with it.  Then we rushed to get ready for evening wear.  We had a little bit more time to get ready for evening wear so we were able to get a few pictures of all the beautiful contestants.  They were such a fun group of girls.  Jessica had come home after many practices saying that she was so grateful that she had the opportunity to meet all these girls.  I really think they will be friends for a long time.  The girls did their evening wear walk and then they all came out on the stage together to answer two on-stage questions.  I really liked this idea.  It helped the girls feel comfortable on the stage.  Jessica's two questions were so perfect for her and she answered them so well.  It was AMAZING!  I was so happy for her.  The best part was that she was happy with how she did.  And so it begins........
